Can we talk about the weird quiet at the new library downtown?

I went to the new central branch on 5th Street last Tuesday afternoon. It was packed, like maybe 200 people, but you could hear a pin drop. I mean, it's a library, but this felt different, almost tense. Some people seem to love the extreme quiet, saying it's perfect for focus. Others, like me, find it kind of stressful and miss a little background hum. Has anyone else felt that way in a super quiet public space?

Yeah, that kind of quiet makes me nervous I'll be the one to break it. Like, my stomach is gonna rumble and I'll get the death stare from everyone.

Oh man, @josephmartin, you just described my life. My stomach has its own opinion on when to hold a loud meeting. Once in a dead silent library, it let out this long, low groan that sounded like a bear waking up. I just slowly slid down in my chair and pretended to be really, really asleep.

That quiet makes my own breathing sound too loud.
