Snapped a 3,000-year-old pot handle at the dig site near Flagstaff because I didn't check the soil moisture first
I was brushing away loose dirt in a hurry to get to the good stuff, and the whole handle just crumbled in my hand, now I have to sit through a three-hour conservation lecture next week, has anyone else made a dumb mistake like this on a dig?

Knocked a Roman coin right into my own coffee cup last month, now that's an expensive sip!

Comes to show how we handle things without even thinking. I dropped a vintage watch into a sink full of dishwater just last summer. You get so used to moving fast through the day that your hands just don't cooperate when something delicate is involved. It's like our brains are wired for plastic cups and modern coins, not for things that actually matter.
