Showerthought: that famous cave art hand stencil number everyone repeats is way off
I kept seeing people say the hands at Cueva de las Manos in Argentina are roughly 700 to 800 years old, but when I dug into the actual 2019 paper on the site the dates came back closer to 9,000 years for some of the paint layers. That gap is huge and it bugs me that the wrong figure keeps getting passed around even in museum blurbs. Where do you all go first when you want to check if a date you read somewhere is actually solid?
