Pro tip: that muddy field behind my aunt's barn in Ohio turned out to be a fort site
Three years ago my aunt kept finding bits of worked flint in her garden outside Chillicothe, so she finally called the local college about it. A grad student came out with a shovel and dug five small test pits, and by the second day they were pulling up pottery sherds and what turned out to be a section of ditch wall. The site got recorded with the state and now there's a survey scheduled for this fall. Back when I was a kid we just called those rocks "arrowheads" and stuck them in a jar. Has anyone else had a family spot turn out to be an actual recorded site?
