My local archaeology group's field notes went from 40 pages of paper to one shared folder, and I'm still not sure how I feel about it
Back in 2016 our little group in Norwich catalogued every find by hand, and I mean everything, sketch, grid ref, depth, the lot. We filled four notebooks a season, and the biggest pain was hauling them to the museum archive where they sat in boxes nobody could search. Now everything goes into a shared digital file on site, and a report that used to take us 6 weeks to pull together takes about 3 days. I miss the paper (there was something about flipping pages that made patterns jump out), but I can't argue with the results. Has anyone else made that switch and secretly kept the notebooks anyway?
