Just realized the difference in dig site photos from 10 years ago vs now

I was comparing old excavation photos from Pompeii from 2014 to the ones from last month, and the change is wild. Back then everything was grainy smartphone pics, now they're using drones and 3D scanning for every trench. Has anyone else noticed how much faster the documentation is these days?

Wait, you actually think 3D scanning takes more time than drawing everything by hand?

Disagree completely. All that fancy tech slows things down because someone has to set it up and make sure it works right. The old method of just snapping a few photos with a regular camera was faster and got the job done just fine. Drones and 3D scanning add a ton of extra steps and data to deal with, which pretty much wastes time that could be spent actually digging.

Wait, you think setting up a drone is actually harder than trying to hand-draw a whole trench with a pencil? Man, I would have assumed the digital stuff saves you from having to sit there sketching rocks for hours.
