Just blew $200 on a fake Roman coin from a mall kiosk - guess I deserved it
I was at the Westbrook Mall last Saturday and saw this booth with ancient coins. Guy had a story about how they were from a recent dig in Bulgaria. Seemed legit, you know? I bought this one with Emperor Trajan on it, all excited. Got home, did some research, and it's a cheap replica. The patina was just dirt and glue. Felt like an idiot. Has anyone else fallen for something like this at a random shop or market?

Next time hit up a pawn shop, they'll at least haggle on the fake price.

I get that it stings, but "seemed legit" at a mall kiosk should have been a red flag right away. Those guys are basically professional storytellers, and a real ancient coin from a "Bulgarian dig" wouldn't end up next to a pretzel stand for $200. At least you learned a cheap lesson compared to what some people lose on eBay.
