Chose to drop a 60 foot oak in sections instead of felling it whole, cost me 2 extra hours
Had a big red oak leaning toward a customer's garage in Salem last month, and I stood there for 10 minutes debating whether to notch and drop it in one shot or rig it down piece by piece. I went with the slow route even though the drop looked clean, and about 40 minutes in I found a rotten crotch about 25 feet up that would've sent the whole top sideways right into the roof. Cost me two extra hours and a sore shoulder but the garage is still standing. Anyone else got a gut call like that where the slow way saved your butt?
