That $40 drain auger from the big box store just cost me a $600 callout
I grabbed one of those cheap spinning augers to clear a clogged dishwasher line last Tuesday, figured it'd save me a service fee on my own machine. The cable snapped inside the pipe and wrapped around the pump impeller, which meant tearing out the whole base assembly to fish out the pieces. Anyone else had a budget tool fail at the worst possible moment, or do you stick to the name brand stuff for your own place?
