PSA: Aftermarket igniters made a tough repair doable

I keep hearing that only factory parts are safe for gas range fixes. But I had a case where the original igniter was backordered for weeks. I tried a aftermarket one from a trusted supplier, and it fired right up. The range has been running fine for over a year now. I think we should not rule out good aftermarket options so fast. They can keep appliances running when time is tight. Just test them well before you finish the job.

That early check while it's open can catch alignment issues or weak sparks before they turn into real headaches. Saves you from that second round of disassembly drama.

Hold up, testing it before you finish the job is good, but for something electrical like an igniter, I test it before I even put all the screws back. A quick check while it's still partly open can save you from taking the whole thing apart again. @amy_henderson83, your morse code spark story is exactly why. With my stuff, if a part is going to fail, it usually does right away.

Learned this the hard way after I bought the absolute cheapest igniter I could find online for my old dryer. That thing sparked like it was trying to send a morse code distress signal. I felt pretty silly and had to order a decent aftermarket one anyway. Your point about testing it first is key, that saved me the second time around.
