I finally bought a $60 amp clamp meter and it saved me a burnout on a dryer job

Was about to order a heating element for a Kenmore in Tulsa when the clamp showed the circuit pulling way more than it should, so I found the shorted wire instead. Anyone else almost replace a part before checking amp draw first?
