Gas range calibration debate after my Thanksgiving disaster

Honestly, my oven at a rental near Austin read 350 but was running 400, turkey came out dry. I'm split between trusting cheap probe thermometers over factory dials for on-site checks. Anyone else found a reliable way to verify temp without dragging a $200 calibration kit around?

Same thing happened to me last year with a rental oven, dry bird and all. Cheap probe thermometer saved my butt, turns out the dial was off by like 50 degrees every time.
