The tiny anime museum in Kyoto had a 1980s cel display that blew my mind
I stopped by this small place near Fushimi Inari last month, just a two room setup above a ramen shop. They had original cels from a 1983 mecha show I grew up watching, still with the paint cracks and registration marks. The owner told me they rotate 40 pieces every 3 months, mostly from local collectors who trust him with their stuff. Seeing the hand painted backgrounds up close made me realize how much detail gets lost in modern digital work. You could even see where the animator corrected a line with white paint. Anyone else ever stumble on a hidden anime archive like this, or know of other spots worth hunting down?

The "paint cracks" bit got me, like the artwork is aging better than my knees after sitting through all those reruns. Sounds like the owner's got better taste in rotating stock than most museums I've paid actual money to see.
