Torn between a Yashica Mat 124G and a Rolleicord, went with the Yashica and instantly regretted it
Last month I found both cameras at an estate sale in Sacramento, the Yashica for $180 and the Rolleicord for $220. I picked the Yashica because the meter worked, but after two rolls I noticed the focus screen is dim and my close shots keep coming out soft. A guy at my local lab in Fresno said the Rolleicord's screen is way brighter and I should have spent the extra $40. Now I'm debating whether to sell the Yashica and hunt down a Rolleicord, or just get a brighter screen installed for around $70. Anyone here shot both and have a strong opinion on which one is actually worth keeping?

I did the exact same dumb thing but in reverse, bought a Rolleicord at a flea market in Stockton and then spent a month complaining that the crank advance felt cheap compared to my buddy's Yashica. Turns out I was just bad at focusing and blamed the gear. The dim screen thing is real though, my Rolleicord glass is way easier to nail focus on at f/3.5 and up close, so if your soft shots are all wide open and near, that's probably you fighting the screen and not the lens. For 70 bucks a new screen is cheaper than selling at a loss and re-buying, so I would try the screen first before you go chasing another camera.
