The guy at the camera shop in Boise talked me out of selling my grandpa's old Pentax
I went into this little camera shop in Boise last week to unload my grandpa's old Pentax K1000 because I figured I'd never actually use it. The guy behind the counter, older dude named Walt, asked why I was getting rid of it and I said something dumb like it was too slow for me compared to my phone. He just nodded and pulled out a beat up photo album from under the register, showed me 30 years of shots he took on the exact same model, family stuff, road trips, his dog who died in 2009. Then he said, "Speed isn't the point, son, it's that you actually look before you shoot." I stood there kind of embarrassed because I'd never thought about it like that. I bought a roll of Kodak Gold 200 right there, loaded it in the parking lot, and shot the rest of the afternoon. Got the roll developed at home two days ago and like 8 of the 24 shots are actually decent, way more than I expected. Has anyone else had a camera guy or gal talk them out of a sale like that? Curious if Walt is just a Boise thing or if this happens everywhere.
