Serious question: my Paterson reel jammed with 4 shots left on the roll, do you force it or start over?
Last Saturday I was loading a roll of HP5 in the dark bag and about halfway through the reel just seized up on me. I tried wiggling it, I tried breathing on it, I tried the old scissors trick on the corners, and nothing worked. So now I am stuck between ripping the film out and possibly scratching every frame, or sealing the tank and hoping the kink does not show up in the soup. I went with sealing it and the negs came out with this weird crimp line down the middle of frame 18. Do you guys always sacrifice the roll at that point, or is there a trick I am missing?
Force it every time, a scratched roll beats a lost roll any day. Worst case you lose a couple frames to scratches, best case the whole thing develops fine and you just saved 30 shots.
