I finally got my hands on a Pentax K1000 at a yard sale in Dayton last month, now what lens should I hunt for

Picked it up for $45 from a guy cleaning out his garage near the Oregon District, and the body looks solid but it came with no glass at all. I've been shooting a Olympus Trip 35 for 3 years so this is my first SLR and I don't know where to start with the whole K mount thing. Should I grab a 50mm f/1.8 first or save up for something wider for street stuff? Also any tips on checking the light meter before I burn a roll of Portra on it would help.
