My favorite carving knife handle cracked mid-swing in Des Moines

Was shaping a spoon on Tuesday when the walnut handle split right at the ferrule, sent the blade flying across my garage, so now I'm hunting for a full tang option under $60, anyone else trust their main tool differently after one bad swing?
