Had to pick between two benches at the flea market in Tucson and I went with the ugly one

Last Saturday I stood in front of a clean pine workbench for $60 and a beat up oak one for $90, and I picked the oak because the top felt heavier when I tapped it. Got it home and spent 2 hours scraping off old paint and found a brass tag from a 1948 school shop underneath. My back still hurts from moving it solo, but the thing barely racks when I plane on it. Anybody else ever buy the worse looking option and feel smug about it?
