Ditched my pricy sketchbook for cheap copy paper and got better results

I spent 40 bucks on a fancy leather-bound sketchbook for my ink drawings and after a month I hated every page because the paper texture fought my pen. Switched to a ream of dollar store printer paper and suddenly my lines felt smoother and I stopped worrying about wasting expensive pages. Has anyone else found that going simple actually improved their work?

Wait, have you actually tried using different papers before? In my experience it makes a huge difference honestly. I remember switching from some cheap stuff that felt like printer paper to a nicer brand and it completely changed how my watercolors looked. The cheap paper would buckle and pill up after like two washes but the good stuff just soaked it right up. And don't get me started on how the cheaper paper made my fountain pen look like a scratchy mess. Your mileage may vary of course but for me it was a total game changer once I started paying attention.
