TIL a cheap voltage tester beats my $200 meter for checking panel grounds
Last week I was finishing a panel swap in a house off Riverside Drive and my fancy multimeter kept giving me weird readings on the ground bar. Out of frustration I grabbed the $12 Klein non contact tester I keep in my back pocket and it lit up instantly on the hot leg and stayed dark on ground, which told me more in 5 seconds than the meter did in 20 minutes. Turns out my meter leads were going bad and I never noticed because I always trusted the screen. Now I check every ground with the cheap pen first before I even pull out the big meter. Any of you run into leads that go bad without any visible damage?
