Overheard a GC say wireless alarm sensors are for lazy installers
I was on a job site last Tuesday and the general contractor told his boss that anyone who uses wireless sensors instead of hardwiring is just cutting corners. He was talking about a system I installed last month at a 2,400 sq ft house and now I'm second-guessing my work. Do you guys run into this kind of pushback from other trades or is wireless pretty standard now for residential?

Don't you think that attitude overlooks how much wireless tech has improved in the last five years? I've been doing this since the 90s and the newer wireless stuff is just as solid as hardwired, plus it saves time on rough-in.

Don't you think people who haven't done a fresh build in a while just don't get how far it's come? I'm with you @reesel50, I swapped a whole house over to wireless dimmers last year and haven't had a single dropout... beats running romex through finished walls any day. The time savings on rough-in alone makes it worth it for my customers.

Last house I did was a 3000 sq ft ranch with attic access on one side only. Hardwiring the back half would have meant tearing into finished drywall or running conduit outside. The wireless contacts on that job have been rock solid for two years now. I'd just tell that GC to look at the alarm panel event log and compare false alarm rates between the two. Numbers don't lie.
