Old swaps usually go smooth, maybe you just had bad luck with that one.

Ditch the old seals before you even start - grab a fresh set from any auto parts store for like 15 bucks. I learned that the hard way after my oil pump started sucking air on a 90s Honda. Also make sure the pan bolts are torqued right, not just cranked down. Overtightening warps the pan and causes leaks.
