Regional jet APU access panel in Phoenix had me scratching my head

I was doing a line check on a CRJ last month at Sky Harbor and the APU access panel screws were so corroded I spent 45 minutes just getting three of them out. Supervisor walked by and said 'welcome to the desert, kid, every bird out here looks like that after a few summers.' Has anyone else run into weird corrosion issues specific to certain airports or climates? I never saw this back in Seattle.

Figured it was just heat cycling, not humidity. Corrosion here is way worse.
