PSA: stop telling new A&Ps they need the $400 tool cart first
Everyone pushes the fancy rolling cart on day one, but I ran a $60 husky bag and a $12 clipboard for my first two years at a regional hangar in Wichita and it did the job fine. Spent the leftover money on a used torque wrench and safety wire pliers that I actually use daily. What did you guys buy first that turned out to be a waste?
What made you finally ditch the husky bag and upgrade? I ask because I did the same thing for my first year, just a cheap bag and whatever tools I could afford, and the guys on the floor gave me grief about it nonstop. Looking back, the only thing I truly wasted money on early was a fancy LED work light that died in two months and a set of stubby wrenches I used maybe twice. The stuff that paid off was boring, like a good flashlight and extra safety wire twisters. So what was your one buy that you'd tell a new guy to skip no matter what?
