Thinking about how air frying rewired my idea of a 'treat'.
I remember when fries meant a pool of grease on the plate. Now they come out crispy and light, no mess needed.

Funny, it had the opposite effect on me. That whole experience of deep frying felt like an event, you know? The smell filling the kitchen, the sound of the oil bubbling. The air fryer just makes things too easy and clean, which kind of kills the special feeling. It turns a treat into just another easy weeknight side. For me, part of the fun was the messy, guilty process. Now it feels a bit too much like just heating up a frozen item, even if it is crispier.

I was all about the air fryer... until @spencer_lee reminded me why deep frying feels special.

I get what Spencer means about the event feeling, but for me the air fryer made treats feel more like a normal part of my week. Like, I'll have crispy fries on a Tuesday now without feeling gross after. The special feeling comes from enjoying the food, not from dealing with a big mess.
