AI content detectors gave me false confidence, until one caught me red handed
I was writing product descriptions for my Etsy shop and swore by Copyleaks to check everything I generated. Last Tuesday I ran a batch of 30 listings through it, all came back 99% human, so I posted them without a second look. A customer wrote back saying my copy sounded like a robot wrote it, and when I ran that exact text through GPTZero, it flagged 87%. Turns out I was feeding my own AI output through a detector that was just guessing, and now I rewrite every draft manually before I trust any score. Has anyone else had a detector fail them this badly?
Did you ever think about how those detectors are trained on older AI text, so newer models slip right past them? Maybe the real issue is that we're trusting a tool that was built to catch last year's version of AI, not the one we're actually using.
