Decaf after 3pm is a total lie, tried it for a week and felt worse

I kept hearing people say decaf still gives you that cozy ritual without the jitters, so last Tuesday I swapped my usual 3pm dark roast for decaf. Three days in I was falling asleep at my desk by 4:30 and my afternoon slump got way worse, turns out the placebo effect only works if you actually believe it. My coworker Melissa even said 'you look like you need a nap' and she never comments on anything. Has anyone else tried the decaf switch and felt completely robbed of the afternoon boost?

Hold on, Melissa actually said that to you? That’s brutal. I mean, I’ve nodded off after lunch before, but nobody’s ever called me out like that. Falling asleep by 4:30 after switching to decaf sounds like your body was basically screaming for the real thing. That placebo effect is a real joke when your brain knows the difference. My guess is you weren’t just tired, you were straight up caffeine withdrawal tired, which hits way harder than a normal slump. You got robbed, plain and simple.

Wait, Melissa SAID that out loud? That's cold, even for a coworker. Falling asleep at 4:30 is not just a placebo fail, that's your body flat out rejecting the fake stuff. The withdrawal crash is real, and honestly, decaf made me feel like I was dragging through mud all afternoon too.
