TIL the average person laughs only 15 times a day, found it in a waiting room magazine
I was sitting in a dentist office in Tulsa last month and picked up an old Reader's Digest that said adults laugh around 15 times a day while kids hit 300. That number stuck with me because my after work ritual used to be scrolling on the couch, and I could not remember the last time I really laughed out loud. So now I keep a stack of old comedy albums by the record player and put one on while I make dinner, and some nights I get more than 15 just from that. Anyone else have a go-to that gets them laughing after a rough shift?
Heard a podcast last year where a guy said the 15 laughs number is kind of a myth, like nobody really knows where it came from, but the point still holds that adults laugh way less than kids. Made me pay attention to my own day and man, some days I might hit three. What works for me is old sitcom bloopers on my phone while I do dishes (the outtake reels where the actors keep breaking). Something about watching other people lose it makes me lose it too. Cheap fix and it beats another quiet night on the couch.
