Appreciation post: the guy who fixed my washing machine with a paperclip at 2am

Found him on a late night forum in Phoenix - he told me the control board error was just a loose solder joint, not a $400 replacement. He walked me through reflowing it on my stovetop in 15 minutes. Anyone else had a random stranger save them a ton of cash on appliance repair?

@ray136 I read somewhere that most appliance repair scams involve control boards that don't even need replacing. That tip about the solder joint sounds solid - those factory connections can crack from vibration over time.

Hey man, that's awesome! It's crazy how people with real skills are just out there helping folks for free. I had a similar thing happen with my old dryer - some guy on a home repair forum talked me through bypassing a thermal fuse with a wire nut, saved me a couple hundred bucks easy. It really restores your faith in humanity when strangers take time out of their night to walk you through something like that. Did you end up buying that guy a beer or anything?

@ray136 maybe it's just me but I wouldn't bypass a safety part that way.
