Am I losing it or did mattress shopping get INSANELY complicated?
I remember 6 years ago I walked into a Mattress Firm in Austin, laid on 3 beds for 10 minutes each, and walked out with a queen for $400. Now I've been up since 2am reading about hybrid vs memory foam vs latex coils and I've got 14 browser tabs open comparing return policies. The last one I ordered from an online company had me sleeping on a yoga mat for 3 weeks while I waited for a refund. Has anyone else just gone back to a local store and paid cash for something simple?

Honestly I gotta push back a little on this. I did the whole online mattress thing two years ago and it worked out fine for me. I got a medium firm hybrid from one of those direct to consumer companies after reading maybe 3 reviews and it showed up in a box and I was sleeping on it that night. The return thing is a risk but I think people overthink it now because there's too many options and you start reading horror stories.

Solidarity, I ended up sleeping on an air mattress for a month after a return nightmare.

Five weeks on a cheap camping mattress from Walmart taught me that online mattress returns are a total gamble. My first box arrived with a tear in the foam and the company just ghosted me for three weeks. It took filing a chargeback with my credit card to finally get my money back. So yeah, I think the horror stories are more common than people want to admit.
