Update: My $40 paint sprayer turned my kitchen into a Jackson Pollock

Last weekend I tried one of those cheap Wagner sprayers from the big box store on a set of oak cabinets. I thought I'd save time over brushing, but the thing sputtered and splattered every 20 seconds no matter how much I thinned the paint. After 3 hours I had more overspray on the floors, windows, and my dog than on the actual doors. The worst part was peeling off dried latex from my glasses lens while my wife just stood there shaking her head. I got the cabinets to a semi-decent finish with a brush in half the time, so the sprayer went straight back for a refund. Has anyone else in Abq had luck with a specific brand for cabinet work, or is brushing just the safer bet here?
