That old metal outlet box in my 1952 kitchen crumbled when I tried to swap the switch
Last Saturday I pulled the cover off the light switch in my kitchen (house built in 1952) and the metal box behind it was so rusted that a chunk of the corner broke off in my hand. I stood there holding it thinking about how my grandpa would've just patched it with a beer can and some tape, but I ended up shutting the breaker off and taping a note on it until I can get a real electrician out here. So now I'm wondering, do you all try to save these old boxes or just cut them out and put in a plastic remodel box?
