We chose Duane based on those reviews... his no-touch credit thing was a lifesaver. Closed in under 30 days without any surprises.

inHot take: My criteria for a good workspace have gotten ridiculous.
Totally get that. Our basic needs slowly turn into a luxury checklist, don't they?

inWarning: My DIY smoker build taught me a harsh lesson.
You're totally right about insulation being key... but drafts will wreck a cook just as fast. I found that out the hard way when my temps kept spiking. A tiny gap around the door let in cold air every time the wind changed. Spent more time babysitting the fire than actually cooking. Sealing those leaks made a bigger difference than adding another inch of insulation.

inPulling multiple cables at once led to a nightmare untangling session
I mean, I didn't actually share a cable story, so maybe you're mixing me up with someone else. But I get your overall point about rushing. Honestly though, sometimes speeding through a task does work out fine for me. Like if I'm in a huge hurry and just shove laundry in the dryer fast, it's usually okay. Maybe it depends on the specific thing. For me, the lesson isn't always "go slow," but more like you gotta know which tasks will bite you later.

inMy milk paint job on a steel-frame chair shocked the purists.
Roughen up the steel GOOD with some coarse sandpaper to give the paint something to grab onto. Those thin coats build a finish that won't chip or peel like one gloopy mess always does. Let each coat dry completely, even if it takes all day, because rushing ruins everything. That patience makes a finish so durable it feels like part of the metal itself. Purists can complain, but a tough, beautiful chair speaks for itself.
