Warning: That 'vintage' find might not be the treasure you think
I grabbed a leather jacket tagged as 70s era for $75, but the lining was polyester and the zipper was a modern replacement. A quick search showed it was a cheap repro from a few years back, not worth half the price. Folks always hype up vintage thrift scores, but some shops are just cashing in on the trend, lmao. It's made me double-check every 'antique' claim before I buy, which kinda ruins the fun.

$75 for a repro with a modern zipper is straight-up robbery. Polyester lining in a leather jacket from the 70s would have been rare, so that's a huge red flag. Shops pulling this stuff make it hard to trust any vintage claim anymore.

But is it REALLY that big of a deal? Some folks just want a decent jacket without obsessing over every detail.

Bought a 'vintage' denim jacket with plastic buttons once, totally ruined the vibe.
