My mom's Palm Pilot from 2000 still turns on. Idk what we used it for back then.

Those old devices actually did real work. My Palm III kept my whole life sorted. Contacts, notes, calendars, all without a constant internet pull. Piper_coleman88 mentioning brick phones fits. We carried less back then, but each gadget had a clear job. Today's phones do everything, but that focus felt cleaner sometimes.

Found my dad's old brick phone and it sparked this whole conversation about tech we used to carry.

Yeah I agree with what jasonf17 said about the Palm III. Those old gadgets had one job and they did it well. @victorw43 called it 'a bit extra' but I think he's missing the point. It's not just about the phone itself, it's about how having limited tech forced us to actually think about what we needed to carry. My dad had a separate GPS unit, a camera, and an MP3 player all in his bag. Today we get annoyed when our phone battery dies after a day of doing everything. There was something nice about not being reachable 24/7 and having devices that just did their thing without asking for updates or permissions.

Calling it a 'whole conversation' seems a bit extra. It's just a phone, after all.
