Reducing eye fatigue with tinted lenses at the bench
My eyes used to ache from the furnace glow after a few hours. I got some light amber safety glasses from the supply store. They cut the bright light but still let me see the glass well. Now I can work all day without squinting. My head feels clearer and my hands stay steady. Try a pair if you strain to see details in the heat. It helped me a ton.

@the_emery glad it helps, but amber hides color shifts in hot glass for me.

I always thought tinted lenses would mess up my color perception while working. After reading your post I grabbed a cheap pair of amber safety glasses last week. The difference was insane by the end of the first day. My eyes felt relaxed instead of that dried out, throbbing feeling I used to get. I guess I was just being stubborn about changing my setup for years. You completely changed my mind on this.

Have you tried different tint densities for various lighting conditions? I keep a light pair for normal bench work and a darker set for direct furnace viewing. Your eyes need a few days to adapt, but the reduced glare makes details pop without the ache. Just get glasses that sit snug to block light from the sides. After that, clear lenses feel like staring into the sun.
