I used to think a packed calendar meant I was doing well

Last Tuesday I had four client calls, two project deadlines, and a proposal to write all in one day. By 3 PM my brain felt like static and I missed a key detail in a contract that cost me a $500 upcharge I had to eat. The turning point was when my kid asked if I could play a game and I snapped at him because I was so fried. That night, I looked at my schedule and saw I had booked myself solid for three months straight without a single buffer day. I cleared one afternoon this week just to think and organize my tools. It was the first time I felt in control in months. How do you guys build in real breaks without feeling like you're losing money?

Wait, three months straight with zero buffer days? How did you even survive that without losing your mind completely? I can't imagine booking that far ahead without a single gap, that would make me feel like I'm drowning before the month even starts. The missed detail in the contract really got me - that $500 mistake probably hurt less than the shame of realizing you could have prevented it with a clear head. Your kid asking you to play and you snapping is the kind of wake up call nobody asks for but everyone needs eventually.

Ever try the time blocking thing? I put "admin buffer" on my calendar for an hour every afternoon. No calls, no deep work. Just catch up or stare at the wall. It looks booked so people don't schedule over it.

It’s funny how we all have to trick the system just to get a minute to breathe now isn’t it.
