Spent over $300 trying to get into Victorian hairwork and it's just sitting in a box

I saw a video about making jewelry from human hair, which was a huge thing in the 1800s. I bought special braiding tools, a book of patterns, and even some practice hair from a wig supplier. The whole setup cost me about $320. The problem is the learning curve is insane, and my fingers just can't get the tiny braids right. Now I have this whole kit collecting dust in my closet. Has anyone else tried a hobby that looked cool but was way too hard to start?

That Victorian hairwork kit is a future heirloom waiting to happen.

So what was the hardest part, the actual braiding technique or just handling the hair itself? I've heard the hair can be super slippery and hard to control, especially if you're trying to follow those tiny patterns. Did the book make any sense at all, or was it just confusing old diagrams?
