Pro tip: I stopped using my phone as an alarm after my cat knocked it off the nightstand at 5 AM last Tuesday.
I switched to a basic $8 clock radio from a thrift store and realized the jarring static and actual effort to turn it off gets me out of bed faster than any gentle phone tone I'd just snooze.

That "jarring static" method is brilliant. My buddy did something similar after his dog ate his phone charger, and he swears by his old boom box alarm now. He says the physical act of getting up to hit the stop button breaks the sleep cycle completely.

That physical act thing @coleman.gray mentioned is why my old car radio still works better than any app.

Wait, his dog ate a phone charger? What kind of dog is that? Mine just chews shoes. That's a whole new level of destruction.
