The neighbor who saw me pull a lamp out of a dumpster said I was just making more trash for someone else

Last Tuesday in Cleveland, a guy named Dave watched me drag out an old brass floor lamp and said I was just adding to the pile of junk nobody wants. He argued that most dumpster finds end up back in the trash within a month, but I've sold three pieces from that same lot already. Do you think it's still worth saving stuff if most of it just cycles through your garage for a while before hitting the curb again?

Then what's Dave's real problem with you pulling stuff out? Is he just annoyed that you're messing with the dumpster he wanted to hit later, or does he honestly think every single thing that goes in there should stay buried forever? I've pulled five lamps out of alleys in the past year and only had to toss two back because they were too far gone. Seems like the ones that actually work or clean up nice end up in my living room for years, not weeks.

That whole situation smells like a turf war more than anything. Dave's probably not mad about the principle of dumpster diving, he's mad that you found his honey hole.
