Warning: I used to plan every city 3 months ahead, now I book 4 days out
Back in 2019 I had a color coded spreadsheet for Chiang Mai with coworking passes bought 90 days early, and last week I landed in Medellin with nothing but a hostel for 2 nights. Honestly the trips where I wing it have been cheaper and I meet way more people, has anyone else gone the other way and started booking everything again?
Booked everything again after one too many sketchy last minute situations. I get why winging it feels free and fun at first, but I got tired of paying crazy prices for flights because I waited too long. When you book a few days out you get the leftover seats nobody wants, and those cost more, not less. Plus I show up somewhere and every decent hostel is full so I end up in some dump far from everything. Meeting people is cool but I can do that at a place I actually planned ahead for. Planning ahead doesn't have to mean a color coded spreadsheet either, it just means I know where I'm sleeping.
