That guy in the Chiang Mai coworking space swore by his VPN, 2 months later I got locked out of my bank account

He said to always route through Singapore for banking, I used the free one he recommended and now my bank froze everything while I'm stuck in Bali with 40 baht and a support ticket that's been open for 6 days, has anyone else had a VPN flag them like this?
