Overheard a hostel owner bragging about fake wifi reviews in Chiang Mai

Last Tuesday I was grabbing coffee near Nimman and heard this guy who runs a guesthouse telling his friend they bought 40 five star reviews for their 'fast fiber' wifi, but the actual speed test in the lobby hit 4 Mbps. It got me thinking about how many of us pick spots based on those ratings and end up stuck trying to run Zoom calls from a park bench. Has anyone else walked into a place that looked great online but totally failed on the internet, and what's your backup plan when that happens?
