Talking to a painter at a gallery opening made me question my whole digital process

Last Friday I was at a small gallery opening in Portland and got chatting with an older oil painter who said my digital pieces looked 'too clean, like they never had a second thought'. That hit different because I spend hours smoothing out every brushstroke, but she was right that the happy accidents are what make art feel alive. Do you ever intentionally leave rough edges or mistakes in your digital work, or do you polish everything until it's sterile?
