The movie theater on 5th had someone in row F crinkling a candy bag for 20 solid minutes
I went to see a movie at the theater on 5th Street Saturday night and this guy two rows behind me spent the whole opening act digging through a plastic bag of candy. Not opening it once, mind you. Digging. Like he was searching for buried treasure in there. Every single rustle sounded like it was right next to my ear. I finally turned around and gave him the look, and he just stared back at me like I was the rude one. Who brings a crinkly bag into a quiet theater and thinks that's fine? I missed half the dialogue because I was too busy tracking his hand movements. Anyway, I'm curious, do you say something to people like that or just suffer in silence?
Have you tried the cough trick? One loud fake cough toward the person usually gets the message across without starting a whole thing. I did that at a theater last year when a guy next to me kept unwrapping something for like ten minutes straight. He stopped right away and sank down in his seat, and nobody around me even noticed I was the one who coughed. It works way better than turning around and glaring, because they can't argue with a cough and they know everyone heard it. Now I always sit on the aisle near the back too, so if someone is being loud I can just move without making it weird.
