Had to choose between the express lane or self-checkout at Publix yesterday
Picked self-checkout because I only had 3 items, then a lady with a full cart cut in front of me and the machine kept yelling at me for putting my bag in the bagging area wrong. Took me 8 minutes to get out of there, which is longer than the express lane would have been. Anyone else regret these split-second decisions at the grocery store?

Is it really that deep though? Like yeah, self-checkout machines are annoying and people cutting in line sucks, but I feel like we've all been there and survived. It's 8 minutes of your life, you probably wasted twice that scrolling on your phone later that day. And honestly, if you picked self-checkout over express lane with only 3 items, that's kind of on you for not seeing the risk. Machines mess up, people are rude, that's just grocery store 101. I just don't get why this is the kind of thing people hold onto for more than a minute after they walk out the door.

8 minutes isn't even that bad, you probably just stood there annoyed for half of it. The machine yelling at you is annoying but it's not like you were stuck there for an hour. People cut in line sometimes, it happens, not worth getting worked up over.

Eight minutes is a long time when you're just standing there listening to a machine tell you to go faster. It's not the time itself, it's the feeling of being trapped with that loud beeping while everyone stares at you. And telling someone not to get worked up about line cutters is missing the point entirely, it's about basic respect for other people's time. A little common courtesy goes a long way, and we've all got somewhere to be.
