That $30 ice cream maker from the swap table was a scam, I should've known better

Picked up a barely used ice cream maker at the swap meet on Saturday for $30, looked fine in the box. Got it home, plugged it in, and the compressor sounded like a dying lawnmower before it just stopped running. Took me 3 hours and two trips to the hardware store to figure out the coil was completely fried, not worth fixing. The guy who gave it away was gone by the time I got back, figures. So now I'm out $30 and have a broken gadget taking up shelf space. Anyone else get burned by a swap item that looked good but had a hidden problem?
