My 5am alarm habit lasted 3 days and then my sleep fell apart
Honestly I thought I cracked the code when I started waking up at 5am to get ahead on chores. Day one and two felt great, coffee in hand by 5:15, kitchen clean by 6. Then night three I was still staring at the ceiling at 12:30 and day four I slept through the alarm completely. What actually broke was my bedtime, not my morning. I was still going to bed at 11:30 like always, so I was just running on 5 hours and guess what, that does not work past two days. So now I set a 9:45pm phone alarm instead and I only get up early if I actually hit 7 hours. Anyone else find the morning habit only sticks after you fix the night one first?
Man, this is exactly what I keep reading about. Sleep folks say your wake up time is locked in by your bedtime, not the other way around. Your body needs a set number of hours and no alarm can cheat that. I heard a doctor on a podcast say the same thing, fix the night first or the morning never sticks. Sounds like you figured out the actual fix, which is way more than most people do. The 9:45 alarm is smart because it gives your brain a heads up instead of just forcing yourself up tired.
