My vet said to stop letting my dog sniff for 20 minutes straight, and walks got way better
I live in Portland and my beagle mix would plant himself at one bush for 20 minutes every single morning, so I finally asked my vet about it at his checkup in March. She said to cap sniff time at 8 minutes per stop and keep him moving after that, since long sniff sessions spike his arousal and make the rest of the walk a pull-fest. It felt mean at first but he actually settles faster now, so how do you all handle a dog that wants to smell one spot forever?
